postheadericon Exciting and Interesting Motivates More Than Money

Mother Nature was not cooperating with the huge business of Anchorage, Alaska’s 1,100 mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race in the winter of 2003. Basically, no snow, no race.

This little story has ideas for the best home businesses in dealing with people you come across in your own business.

The making money ideas here are that if you can motivate your associates, they will in turn, work hard for you and make you money.

“Throw down a challenge,” is what Dale Carnegie says to do when nothing else works.

Photo above shows momentos that Nenana Volunteer Gene Jensen brought home after the exhausting work of helping Nenana host the Number One Checkpoint for the 2003 Iditarod race.

Mr. Carnegie was referring to people who can’t get other people to do what they want. He says that people are motivated by work if it is exciting and interesting, more than by money.

Although the 2003 Iditarod situation is a bit of a spin-off on his reference to people who can’t get other people to work, the race that year definitely demonstrates that people are motivated to work hard if the work is exciting and interesting, and not just for the money.

While a non-profit, non-profits are still businesses, and this one has employees and a boss in addition to contractors and sponsors, and many, many volunteers.

The Iditarod Trail is the route that dog teams in the early 1900’s ran life-saving serum to an Epidemic in Nome. This epic journey is what inspired the start of what has become Alaska’s most popular dog race.

While the Anchorage based business was reluctant to admit that they would have to move the race route, others were jumping at the bit to host the race.

Residents of the village of Nenana, the site of the inspiration for the race, being the historical site of where the Iditarod Trail starts, wanted to host the start of the race, but just north of Nenana is the city of Fairbanks.

When Iditarod began looking at a possible Fairbanks restart, they weren’t sure what kind of response they might get, said Stan Hooley, as quoted by Mark Evans in his online article “2003 Iditarod Begins in Fairbanks”.

Stan Hooley was the executive director of the Iditarod Trail Committee in 2003.

Fairbanks Mayor Steve Thompson told them that Fairbanks would make all the resources available to them, the article states.

Other articles published in February and March of 2003 all concur that the response from volunteers wanting to help with the race was more than abundant.

When all was said and done, both Fairbanks, Nenana, and several other villages along the trail went above and beyond to welcome and help in any way they could to make sure that the 2003 race was a huge success.

The challenge that was thrown out was spurred by the reputation of the race itself, not by a boss or manager, but the result of an exciting and challenging job was met and exceeded more than the worried exec in Anchorage may have dreamed.

postheadericon Tip of the Iceberg Hides Financial Retirement Planning With the Best Home Businesses

Making money ideas along with financial retirement-planning with direct sales is great as far as best home businesses go.

There are small business ideas to choosing your own business that are just below the tip of the iceberg, and I’m here to tell you a couple of secrets.

Only two levels of compensation takes a business like this above the realm of the more well known Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) companies.

Many that are high income earners in home based businesses are even saying that MLM has had it’s day.

Two levels of marketing keep the playing field more level than MLM’s for entry level marketers.

And why is coupling a dual compensation plan with direct sales for your own business better than network marketing?

The dual compensation plan equates with earlier success and more compensation, and direct sales (unlike network marketing), is a term generally reserved for higher compensation, which fits with the aforementioned dual compensation plan.

There are several companies touting these qualities on the internet today.
Some are really, really new, and some have stood the test of time, at least in fast paced Internet time.

So, find a company fitting these protocols and preferably one with more than two or four years history, and with help from your associates, you could be a very happy camper.

Oh, and there are ways to market your new business with little or no money going to advertising.

See “Make Money by Daring to Go Below the Tip of the Online Marketing Iceberg” here in this site for more information on that.

postheadericon More Noble Than Money

As the owner of one of the best home businesses , you may need this skill often.

As far as making money ideas involving skills, this is one of the best people skills to learn, like opting in to a dual-compensation-plan with your company is.

As the newspaper editor of our small weekly publication in Nenana, Alaska, never did an author request payment for their articles. In fact they all, without exception, insisted they did not want pay.
When first starting to publish the news in what had been an advertising flyer, the frustration of the added tasks really got to me. It was just too much work to sell and design ads, typeset and layout the paper, then distribute it.

Adding news was not one of the best ideas the financial picture, but the townspeople were hungry for any bits of local news that were available.

An article in the issues published early on appealed to the nobler motives of our local talented community members.

The article asked them to contribute to the newspaper with their comments, happenings, and anything that might be of interest to our neighbors, so that we could all be more aware of what’s going on in our community.

The first writer was called by me, and even though he was not a reporter of current events, his writing entailed his experiences upon moving to our area of Alaska, and we got great feedback from these regular bits.

Miles of Alaska has gone on to become an artist, and a brilliant marketer of his wares on the world wide web, one the best small business ideas for your own business, as the “web” is highly cost effective in marketing.

As others saw that Miles was getting lots of attention, more people came on board with their contributions.

Appealing to local authors was one of the more excellent small business ideas during the ten years that the Nenana Messenger News existed.

Of the regular writers who contributed each week for years and years, one was a business expert, the other an excellent human interest writer, and three great purveyors of the faiths they believed in, sought me out and volunteered to contribute every week.

Karen Harvey’s human interest stories of our local people were fantastic.

Two local faith based leaders, Virginia Young and Tim Horn, taught all of us a little about the B’a Hai faith. The Minnema family with their strong faith based beliefs, taught us much about how they deal with everyday life, using their Christian ideals.

postheadericon What Everybody Wants

Give Sympathy and Follow Through on the best home businesses For You

While running with the ball of one of my best home businesses that of interviewing a local merchant for more publicity for her business on my blog, she was not the most receptive, even though to be viewed in your own business environment should be good publicity.

Keep in mind she works many more hours in her business, a general store, than many work in this town of ours.

Keeping up with her work hours is not something most home business owners that have a dual compensation plan have to do as they have the income without quite so many hours.

We were talking the subject over on the phone, she was thinking out loud about why she just was too busy to add one more thing to do.

“I’m so busy, I have a meeting after we close at six, tomorrow I have to go to Fairbanks, and that takes away a whole day, and I still have my regular work to do,” she said.

I listened and agreed, saying “You don’t have much time for extras, especially when you run your own business,” and it’s true!

She is a very busy lady, working nine to six, six days a week, and Sunday she is the Deacon at our church. She has multiple other volunteer and sports events she attends, also.

Then she said she just didn’t know if she could take the time to come over and be interviewed, “You just don‘t leave your own business unattended“, she said, even though I know she has other help in place.

Well, that was my opening. It was never my intention to take her away from the store.

“I’d never take you away from your own business”, I said, “Besides, it’d be a better interview with you shown in your own business”.

I let her know that she did not have to move a muscle, that I would come over, interview her while she continued with her paperwork, and be out of her way in a few minutes.

She was delighted and agreed. I followed through on my promises, not delaying her work any more than one of her little pre-school customers who came in with her Dad to say hi while they were in the store.

She deserves a little sympathy, if not more, for all that she does.
I think I may be learning by osmosis, because I’d not yet read the chapter “What Everybody Wants” in Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Influence People” when that conversation took place.

If you would like to have lots of making money ideas
and be one of the best home businesses with financial retirement planning, learn more about how you could get the training that I have by putting your name and email address below.
